1-2 doctoral researchers or project researchers in the field of health technology

 

The Department of Computing, Faculty of Technology at the University of Turku is looking for 1-2 (fixed term positions) doctoral researchers or project researchers in the field of health technology.    

The work is full-time, although part-time work is possible. The positions are fixed term starting as soon as possible, according to mutual agreement, and ending depending on the project on September 30, 2027 (STIMULUS) or June 30, 2028 (POC4TRIAGE).  

The positions are open in two Horizon Europe projects led by the University of Turku. In STIMULUS project (Speckle Technology and Digital Biomarkers of Microvascular Function for Monitoring Cardiovascular Diseases, 1.10.2023 - 30.9.2027), funded by a European Innovation Council Pathfinder grant, we develop new instruments for assessing adverse changes in microcirculatory status linked to hypertension, chronic kidney disease and heart failure, leading to earlier detection of cardiovascular diseases. The instruments are developed and validated in clinical trials. We integrate two state-of-the-art technologies leading to a novel innovation, 3D speckle tissue monitoring.  

In POC4TRIAGE project (Point-of-Care Devices for Urgent Care Triage, 1.7.2024 - 30.6.2028), funded by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), we develop, test, and clinically validate four compact cost- and energy-efficient POC devices for acute care (ambulance, emergency room, intensive care unit). Our Health technology research group develops a new multimodal sensory path for acute monitoring of cardiorespiratory conditions and new high performance real-time AI methods for point-of-care.

We cooperate with hospitals as was well as work within large, multi-national research project consortiums.

Qualification requirements 

The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure: Organisation and Management of the University of Turku | University of Turku

A person selected for the post of Project researcher is required to have a higher university degree. The degree must be completed by the end of the application period. When assessing the merits of the applicants, special emphasis will be placed on competence and practical expertise in the field in question.  

A person selected for the post of Doctoral researcher is required to have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku. In addition, when acquiring their degree or otherwise, they are required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.   

 

Salary & trial period 

The salaries are determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a project researcher / doctoral researcher the salary will be in the beginning of the employment around 2440–2640 euros/month, depending on previous experience and skills. The amount of the salary is defined when the employment contract is prepared.  

A six (6) month trial period applies to the positions.
