1-3 University Teachers or Senior Lecturers in Software Engineering and Computer Science

The Faculty of Information Technology is seeking to recruit 1-3 University Teachers or Senior Lecturers in the fields of Software Engineering and Computer Science, starting from February 1, 2026, or as agreed.  The positions are related to teaching programming, particularly introductory programming courses and modern web applications. In addition to programming instruction, we value expertise in usability and user experience, and the ability to integrate these aspects into programming education. The positions are in effect until further notice.  

The Faculty of Information Technology is one of the largest academic IT educators in Finland, strong in scientific research and highly recognised in the academic rankings of the world's universities. The faculty's activities focus on software engineering systems. In order to strengthen education in software engineering and computer science, we are looking for University Teachers or Senior Lecturers in the area of programming education.

The duties of a University Teacher include teaching, developing students' academic study skills, producing teaching and online materials for software engineering education, and other duties as agreed with the supervisor.  

The Senior Lecturer also supervises theses, develops teaching and courses on a research basis, takes responsibility for curricula where necessary, conducts scientific research as part of faculty research groups, and other tasks as agreed with the supervisor.

Who we are looking for

University Teachers are required to have a suitable higher university degree and teaching skills required in the position, assessed on the basis of their teaching and supervising experience, pedagogical training, teaching materials produced, other teaching achievements and, where needed, teaching ability demonstrated by trial lecture. In addition, professional competence in information technology and familiarity with the technologies and teaching relevant to the job description are required. A willingness to continually develop your skills in line with developments in information technology, good collaboration skills and a proven track record in teaching development are valued.  

Senior Lecturers are required to have a suitable doctoral degree, professional skills in information technology, a proven track record of scientific research through publications, the ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching and to supervise theses. In addition, we value the ability to continuously expand knowledge as information technology develops, good cooperation skills and a proven track record in developing teaching and participating in the organisation of teaching. Merit will be assessed on the basis of scholarly work, teaching experience and pedagogical training, teaching materials produced, other merit in the field of education, and, where needed, teaching ability demonstrated by trial lecture and other merit appropriate to the duties involved.

The duties and qualification requirements of University Teacher and Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the  University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. A good proficiency in Finnish or English is required. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

The salary for a University Teacher is determined based on the task-specific demand level 5 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff and for a Senior Lecturer level 6-7. Additionally individual salary component will be paid depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

  1. A numbered list of all scientific publications and other publications showing the applicant's ability and merits for the position using the guidelines of the Research Council of Finland.
  2. A maximum of five publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications (as one PDF file) or a PDF file with public links to the 5 chosen publications.
  3. Research plan: a short written description (max 4 pages) of the applicant's research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant's current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
