3 Senior Lecturers or University Teachers, Software Engineering and Data Science

 

The Faculty of Information Technology is seeking Senior Lecturers / University Teachers in the fields of Software Engineering and Data Science, to begin on January 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. These positions are in effect until further notice.

The Faculty of Information Technology is one of the largest academic providers of IT education in Finland, with strong research profile and high rankings in global university academic rankings. Software Engineering and Data Science are central to the faculty’s activities. We are seeking Senior Lecturers / University Teachers: 

  • in the field of programming and software development (2 positions) 

  • in the field of data science and artificial intelligence (1 position) 

The duties of a University Teacher include teaching, developing students’ academic skills, producing teaching and online materials needed for software engineering education, and other duties as agreed upon with the supervisor.  

In addition, a Senior Lecturer supervises theses, develops teaching and courses based on research, assumes responsibilities within degree programs as needed, conducts scientific research as part of the faculty’s research groups, and performs other duties as agreed upon with their supervisor.

Who should apply

A university Teacher is required to have a relevant master’s degree and the teaching skills necessary for the position; in evaluating these skills, we take into account teaching and mentoring experience, pedagogical training, teaching materials produced, other achievements in teaching, and, if necessary, teaching ability demonstrated through teaching demonstrations.   

Senior Lecturers are required to hold a relevant doctoral degree, demonstrate a track record of scientific research through publications, and possess the ability to provide high-quality, research-based instruction and supervise theses. 

In addition, proficiency in information technology and familiarity with the technologies and teaching methods relevant to the position are required. We value a willingness to continuously expand expertise as information technology evolves, strong collaboration skills, and a track record of teaching development. 

When evaluating qualifications, we take into account scientific work, teaching experience and pedagogical training, learning materials produced, other achievements in teaching, and, if necessary, teaching ability demonstrated through teaching samples and other qualifications relevant to the position. 

The duties and qualification requirements of Senior Lecturers and University Teachers are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Proficiency in Finnish or English is required. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

Salaries are based on job demands and employees’ performance following the Finnish University Salary System. The salary for a University Teacher is determined based on the task-specific demand level 5 for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 3700-4200 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. The salary for a Senior Lecturer is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6 for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 4500-5000 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.A holiday bonus is paid to all employees. If you are relocating from abroad, we will support your move to Jyväskylä and Finland.

6. Research plan: a short written description (max 4 pages) of the applicant's research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant's current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
