Head of Engineering - Bay Labs - SF

As Head of Engineering, reporting directly to the Cofounder / CTO, you will play an integral role in leading the engineering team and helping the company grow. You will mentor engineers with different skill sets and areas of focus to support their career growth. Along with executives and other functional leaders of the company, you will help balance immediate and long-term business goals as you set priorities for our engineering team. You will oversee the development of breakthrough products that improve healthcare.

At least 3 years of experience as an engineering manager. 
5+ years of experience as a software engineer with deep technical knowledge in a subset of the following fields: software design and architecture, infrastructure, machine learning, systems programming, medical devices. 
Experience with building software products from conception to delivery to customers. 
Knowledge of agile or similar project management methodologies, openness to trying different processes. 
Experience with Python, C++, and cloud computing. 
Comfort with quick decision making, weighing conflicting priorities, and moving rapidly in a startup environment. 
Experience in a highly-regulated industry (such as healthcare) is a plus.

Support technical innovation and help set the strategic direction and prioritization for the technical team around high-impact projects that contribute to long-term quality. 
Help source, screen, hire, grow, and retain talent. Identify team needs and address them through planning and recruitment. 
Clearly establish goals, objectives, and key results; delegate tasks, track progress and timelines for the technical team. 
Monitor and perform cost-benefit analysis of technical debt. 
Make hands-on technical contributions to clear roadblocks for the engineering team. 
Communicate business direction effectively to the technical team, inspiring and guiding them. Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical partners. 
Promote multidisciplinary collaboration with a focus on well-being of patients, ethics, and social responsibility.
