American Arctic Connection intern
The University of Lapland, the University of the Arctic (UArctic), and the U.S. Embassy in Finland are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic American Arctic Connection intern for fall semester 2025 based in Rovaniemi, in Finland’s Lapland region.
If you are interested in the Arctic and are keen to live and acquire knowledge of a northern region, its environment, people, and culture, this may be just for you! The internship will provide opportunities to develop and enhance professional working and communication skills, as well as expand your networks for the future.
The intern will work to strengthen connections between U.S. and Finnish institutions, particularly in the context of the UArctic network and with the University of Lapland. The intern further assists the U.S. Embassy and the University of Lapland by providing up-to-date information about U.S. opportunities through various channels, including social media, the ULapland and the UArctic websites, and the American Arctic Connection information screen at the ULapland.
Where?
The intern is placed at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. The office space is at the UArctic International Secretariat. The work is coordinated in close collaboration with the International Relations Office at the University of Lapland and may include tasks related to the Arctic Centre of the university and the Lapland University of Applied Sciences, as well as specific projects and tasks identified by the U.S. Embassy in Finland.
The UArctic International Secretariat is the coordination and administrative hub of the UArctic network hosted by the University of Lapland.

Students must be considered to be in good academic standing by their home institution in order to be eligible. The length of funding will be up to 6 months.
Successful candidates will have:
- excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- interest and skills in social media (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn)
- basic ICT skills
- social skills for working in an international and intercultural environment
- interest to understand and increase knowledge on Arctic issues
- ability to work independently, under leadership, and with multiple tasks.
When? What?
The internship period: five months (September 2025 - January 2026).
Grant for the internship: 1500 €/month. Travel to and from Rovaniemi (includes airfare, hotel, daily allowance) and housing expenses for five to six months will be covered.
