Group Finance and Control provides financial services to Sanoma Learning, Sanoma Media Finland and the entire Sanoma Group. Sanoma Group’s Finance and Control functions include Business Control, Functional Control, Tech and Product Control, Financial Control, Accounting Services, Tax, and Finance Development.

We are now looking for an experienced

Business Controller HQ

 

to join the Functional Control team which is responsible for business controlling of the parent companies in Finland and in the Netherlands. You will report to the Head of Functional Control.

 

Your main responsibility areas are the financial management of the headquarter entities within Sanoma  and to serve as a business controller to the staff departments at group level for these entities. The staff departments provide support to the whole of  Sanoma Group consisting of Finnish media companies and European learning companies.

 

Your business partners will be the managers of these departments like Group HR, Legal, Communication, Investor Relations, and the various Group Finance teams. You will work closely with them on the full planning and control cycle, including  reporting, forecasting, budgeting and strategic planning.

 

In addition to business controlling, this role offers a strong finance systems’ and process development angle. We have major finance transformation projects in the pipeline  in which we design the future processes and improve analysis and reporting. Transformation and integrations are strongly reflected in the Group’s roadmap and thus also in the business controlling role where you will play a part in post-merger integration and Group alignment activities.

 

Apart from your own team and business partners, you will work closely with the whole of Group Finance where growth and development are reflected in all units. You will also co-operate with group companies. In this fast-paced environment your initiatives are appreciated. The Business Controller HQ is responsible for
 

  •  Management reporting and analysis for the Board and the various HQ departments. Quarterly forecasting, annual budgeting and multi-year strategic planning, including balance sheet and cash flow information.
  • Contributing to team level business controlling activities focused on improving group-wide standardization and collaboration
  • Being a finance expert in development projects, particularly in the R2R process.
  • Development of decision-making support information, like KPIs and dashboards. Contributing to transfer pricing compliance as well as governance for internal audit purposes.

 

What helps you to succeed?
 

  • Minimum of 5 years in a demanding business controller role.
  • Having focused on full financial reporting, including balance sheet and cash flow (forecasting).
  • Hands-on attitude with an ability to keep an eye on the bigger picture as this position combines high-level analysis as well as focus on details.
  • Team-focused with a spirit of cooperation and willingness to share knowledge.
  • Flexible and proactive and independent approach.
  • Solid experience of SAP. Advanced Excel 365 skills. Experience of consolidation packages like HFM is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English. Finnish and other European language skills are an advantage.
  • Experience in working in a  dynamic organization with multiple stakeholders and changing demands requiring continuous improvement.
  • University degree in financial and business administration or similar.

The role is a fixed-term 1-year-contract. The position is located at Sanomatalo, Helsinki, but we have a flexible hybrid way of working.
