Communications Manager

We are Helsinki Shipyard – celebrating 160 years of shipbuilding excellence. Since 1865, we have been designing, building, and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. We proudly continue the legacy of Helsinki’s own Shipyard, right in the heart of Helsinki.

With us, you get to design and build the ships under one roof from start to finish, in close collaboration with our customers. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. To provide you with some perspective, we've built 50% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas!

We are now building a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030. Read more about the project here!

Since November 2023, Helsinki Shipyard has been a part of Group Davie together with SATA Shipbuilding in Pori and Chantier Davie in Levie, Quebec.

We are now looking for a Communications Manager to join our team and play a key role in strengthening our internal and external communications during an exciting growth phase.

Your Role

As a Communications Manager, you will drive clear, timely, and high-quality communication across all functions of Helsinki Shipyard and Davie operations in Finland. You will form the Davies communications team together with Director of Public Affairs, Antti Leino, and a Communications Specialist, supporting daily communication needs as well as long-term strategic initiatives.

You will:

  • Lead and execute Helsinki Shipyards and Davie Finland’s daily internal and external communications, and strengthen the communication between Helsinki Shipyard and SATA Shipbuilding.

  • Create, maintain, and manage the annual communications plan and budget together with the team.

  • Oversee the company’s website, including content creation, updates, and continuous development.

  • Prepare and publish press releases, news, and external communication materials.

  • Coordinate marketing materials and ensure brand consistency across all formats (brochures, videos, ads, printed materials) in collaboration with the sales team.

  • Plan and execute events such as exhibitions, seminars, and stakeholder or customer events together with sales and the business units.

  • Collaborate with HR to strengthen employer branding and recruitment communications.

  • Support and, when needed, substitute for the Director Public Affairs to secure seamless operations.

This is a versatile, hands-on communications role. One day you may prepare a press release on a major strategic partnership, the next you may coordinate a stakeholder event or update key content on our website.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in communications, PR, or marketing. A relevant degree in communications, business, or a related field.

  • Experience working with media and issuing press releases.

  • Experience in managing campaigns, events, and budgets.

  • Background in industrial or B2B communications is considered an advantage.

  • Experience in public affairs or stakeholder relations is a plus.

Skills

  • Excellent written and visual content creation skills in Finnish and English; French is considered an asset but not required.

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks.

  • Good understanding of digital communications, web content management, and marketing materials.

Personal Qualities

  • Proactive, structured, and able to take ownership. We are looking for someone who excels in an environment without silos and is ready to step in wherever needed.

  • Strong communicator with the confidence to get things done and to go hands-on when needed.

  • Adaptable and collaborative, with the ability to work with different teams and personalities.

  • Curious, motivated, and eager to develop communications in a growing organization.

Why Join Us

Working at Helsinki Shipyard means contributing to some of the world’s most demanding and meaningful marine industry projects — from state-of-the-art icebreakers to future-proof, sustainable solutions that keep global seaways open all year round.

You will be part of:

  • A company with a long, respected history and a renewed global growth trajectory. At the same time we are building something new in our communications team, and you get to contribute to that.

  • A dynamic and international environment where communication plays a strategic role. You get to be a part of a larger international conversation that shapes geopolitics.

  • A collaborative culture where trust, responsibility, and professionalism are central. You get to see hands-on how the vessels are built in the city center of Helsinki, and your work is directly linked to the success of not only Davie operations Finland, but Finnish maritime industry as a whole.

  • A role that offers true impact: your work will shape how Davie and Helsinki Shipyard is seen and understood by employees, partners, and the wider public.

“Helsinki Shipyard and our operations in Finland are in rapid growth. Proactive and professional communications are essential when engaging internally and externally” - Antti Leino, Director of Public Affairs, Group Davie

This role can include a moderate amount of traveling, and we value regular onsite presence at the shipyard. If you have a portfolio to showcase your work, we’d love to see it.
