Data Engineer (Helsinki, Tampere, Turku)

Elisa’s Smart Energy team is expanding rapidly, and we are seeking talented individuals to join our dynamic team of over 40 employees. Our multidisciplinary team leverages data and AI to address challenges posed by wind and solar energy becoming primary sources of power, through intelligently managed energy storage. As a Data Engineer, your main focus will be designing and implementing data pipelines between data-intensive systems and participate in developing solutions for data handling and machine learning. This role requires strong data integration skills and solid coding experience.

What is the role all about?
Build and maintain data pipelines.
Continuously improve and optimize data operations.
Contribute to the developing and maintenance of our data platform and critical for machine learning team.
Support and contribute to developing the data platform that enables our product’s development, scaling and machine learning team.
What do we expect from you?
Background and 3+ years of experience in software and data engineering.
Solid experience with modern software design patterns and cloud-native , including distributed computing and data processing pipelines.
Proficiency in Python; knowledge of other programming languages (e.g. Java, Go, ...) is a plus.
Practical development experience in some major cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
A DevSecOps and shift-left mindset and hands-on skills in IaC, and CI/CD.
Experience with data and analytics platforms, preferably Databricks, and building data pipelines.
Experience with distributed batch and streaming processing frameworks (e.g. Apache Spark, Apache Spark Streaming, Apache Kafka, Flink,...).
Experience with schema validation at source and schema evolution.Enjoy writing maintainable and well-tested code.
Good communication skills and fluency in English.
Nice to have
Shift-left testing and data validation mindset.
Experience in networking.
Experience with modern data file formats and specifications (e.g. Parquet, Avro, Iceberg, )
Experience with modern analytics and query engines.
Experience or familiarity with the Apache ecosystem.
Understanding of energy markets, including the balancing reserve markets would be highly valued.
Most of our team is based in Helsinki (some in Tampere and Turku), but like the rest of the Elisians, we can work flexibly (in Southern Finland).
