The role

As a Director of Energy and Flexibility Trading, you will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary team, utilizing data and AI to tackle flexibility challenges associated with the increasing prominence of wind and solar energy. Your main focus will be on identifying and prioritizing energy flexibility trading opportunities across energy and ancillary services markets. You work closely together with AI developers and energy market experts to design and implement multi-market algorithmic trading solutions and improve their performance over time. In addition, you will take responsibility over relevant energy market regulatory compliance and risk management.   

Key responsibilities & requirements: 

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the energy sector: Demonstrated expertise in navigating and addressing challenges within the evolving European energy and ancillary services landscape, with a nuanced perspective from trading optimization and regulatory compliance. 
  • Trading performance development: You can set direction and lead new initiatives that improve multimarket optimization and short-term energy trading capabilities. You can translate market opportunities into algorithmic trading capabilities, and you can identify where new AI and optimization techniques best improve commercial performance of assets under our management.
  • Process and compliance development: You are familiar with European REMIT regulations governing energy and ancillary services markets and can put effective compliance and risk management processes in place in rapidly developing environment.

Your background: 

  • Minimum 5 years experience and proven results in developing energy and ancillary services trading practices. Hands-on experience of physical day-ahead and intraday energy trading, as well as wide European experience, are considered as pluses. 
  • Know-how and in-depth knowledge of energy markets, ancillary services, and related regulatory issues.
  • Proven track record of collaboration with AI developers and mathematical optimization specialists to design and implement projects that deliver results. You have experience of working with state-of-the-art algo-trading platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to bring together technical specialists, energy domain experts and business people into development projects.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct business in additional European languages, such as German, is considered a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for innovation within the zero-carbon energy ecosystem, coupled with solid business acumen. We would be thrilled if you would have experience of structuring different revenue stream models (including off-taking and Flexibility Purchasing Agreements) for flexibility asset owners.
  • While the primary location for this role is in Helsinki, we are open to discussing alternative locations within the EU. Join us in shaping the future of sustainable energy for the C&I segment.
