Doctoral Researcher in Marketing

Turku School of Economics, Department of Marketing and International Business invites applications for the fixed term position of a Doctoral Researcher in Marketing starting from September 1, 2026.

The position may be granted for a maximum of two years based on the stage of the applicant’s doctoral dissertation and postgraduate studies.

The doctoral researcher will work at the Department of Marketing and International Business at the Turku School of Economics. The department offers a multidisciplinary and international work environment, which combines ambitious research, high-quality teaching, and a good work atmosphere.

The objective of research conducted by the Marketing faculty is to benefit business and society by solving key marketing-related challenges in the rapidly changing and complex business environment. As a strategic function, marketing aims at creating value with the customer and other stakeholders. Research in the Marketing subject focuses on three core themes: 1) Dynamics of business markets; 2) Value-driven B2B marketing; and 3) Customer experience and journeys. Read more.

Job description

We are seeking for new graduate students who are interested in an academic career and are ready to work on generating new knowledge and developing future university education together with the scientific community and forerunner companies.

The position of a doctoral researcher is a postgraduate position. In addition to conducting doctoral dissertation research and postgraduate studies in the area of marketing, doctoral candidates will also be involved in tasks supporting teaching, such as planning and coordination of teaching in Marketing and some administrative tasks.

Requirements

According to the University of Turku rules of procedure, a person selected for the post of doctoral researcher is required to have a study right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku. In addition, when acquiring their degree or otherwise, they are required to have demonstrated the ability to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan. In this position, the study right of the Doctoral Researcher is required to be within the Doctoral Programme of Turku School of Economics, in the subject of Marketing.

NOTE! Applicants who have applied for a doctoral study right at Doctoral Programme of Turku School of Economics – primarily in the field of marketing – in the University of Turku spring 2026 call of application for a study right are also eligible to apply for this position.

The application must show both the applicant's motivation for postgraduate studies and the progress of the postgraduate studies so far. Previous experience in teaching and administrative tasks and the suitability of the research topic to the profile of the subject are considered in favor of the applicant. A good knowledge of written and spoken English is a prerequisite and the ability to speak Finnish is considered a benefit.

Salary and trial period

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. Salary for a Doctoral Researcher in the beginning of employment is approximately 2500–3100 euros/month depending on the stage of studies and expertise.

The position has a trial period of six months.
