We are looking for ambitious and results oriented researchers with a strong enthusiasm in embedded system design.

You focus on the digital electronics design, but you can also contribute to the system level design and characterization measurements. It is also beneficial if you understand the big picture and can provide input at all stages. You identify and solve problems independently and creatively, while working closely and flexibly with a team of experts. As a researcher at VTT, you will have a key role in design of imaging systems with main focus on image sensor readout design. 

In this position, you have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge hyperspectral cameras, imaging MIMO radars and next generation communications hardware in a booming environment. We have several projects that you might be interested in working on, such as; 

  • Many space missions targeting eg. asteroids and comets in addition to vast number of ground based applications. You could design digital antenna arrays enabling small satellites to work in world wide networks:  

  • Developing the future 6G mobile network. 

  • FPGA’s and/or next generation digital RF front-end and baseband processing with e.g. RFSoC FPGA boards.  

  • Hyperspectral  cameras for space and ground based applications.

With us, you will be responsible for 

  • Implementation of frontend processing FPGAs and related digital and/or analog electronics design. 

  • Electrical characterization measurements. 

  • Identifying and solving the key issues within your domain of expertise.   

 

Who we are looking for: 

  • Experience in FPGA programming

  • Understanding of microcontroller programming

  • Experience in generic analog to digital readout design

  • Bachelor/Master degree or Ph.D. in electronics, programming or other relevant field 

 

It’s a benefit if you also have 

  • Experience of RFSoC FPGA boards 

  • Experience of DSP algorithms and baseband implementations 

  • Experience in camera detector readout implementation, sensors, and electronics 

  • Experience of Software defined radio (SDR) platforms such as ETTUS USRP plaforms or Xilinx MPSoC devices

  • Embedded software development experience in C/C++, Python, MicroPython or similar 

  • Experience of navigation/AI/ML algorithms 

  • Experience of image sensor readout implementation in FPGA is a strong plus 

  • Skills in programming of microcontrollers 

  • Passion and interest to tinker with electronic

  • Open minded attitude, curiosity and ability to work on new, unknown, challenges 

  • Experience on analog electronics design is also beneficial
