Senior Researcher

Human Emotion Systems Laboratory at Turku PET Centre is looking for a senior researcher for a fixed term position starting in Autumn 2024 (starting date negotiable) to December 31st, 2027.

 

We are recruiting new personnel for our flagship project on imaging the whole-body emotion circuits, led by Prof. Lauri Nummenmaa and funded by the European Research Council. In the project we use newly developed state-of-the-art methods in positron emission tomography and signal analysis for studying the emotion circuits spanning from brain to the periphery in health and disease.

 

Job description

The senior researcher will help in leading the research team in the total-body PET studies, developing the new research line in whole-body emotion imaging, supervising PhD / masters’ students and conducting, reporting, and communicating the findings to the scientific community and the public.

 

Who we are looking for

We are seeking for an aspiring individual with strong motivation and skills for research in human in vivo imaging, cognitive and affective neuroscience, or development or application of PET image analysis methods for quantification of multidimensional data obtained during PET experiments. The applicant should also be interested in studying human affective and cognitive functions. The candidate should have a background and PhD degree in medicine, engineering, computational science, physics, cognitive science, psychology, or related fields, and skills for working with empirical imaging data. Good command of the English language (written and oral) as well as skills for teamwork in a multidisciplinary research group are essential. The applicants are expected to have an excellent track record in carrying out high-quality research on social and emotional processing using imaging methods, or alternatively on relevant methods and signal analysis development.

Salary and trial period

Salary is determined in accordance with levels OV04-OV06, the Finnish Universities Salary System for Research and Teaching Personnel. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the University salary system. The task-specific salary is 2 775,28 ­– 3 747,44 EUR per month. In addition to task-specific salary, personal performance based salary is paid.

A trial period of six (6) months is applied.
