Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Finland is looking for a General Director to lead the office in Helsinki. As part of the global MSF movement, the Finnish organization raises funds, communicates about MSF’s humanitarian mission, and supports the recruitment of international staff for humanitarian operations worldwide. MSF Finland is a branch office of MSF Sweden.

MSF Finland's strategic focus is on fundraising and communications. To drive this vision forward, we are seeking a General Director with humanitarian values, a strategic, analytical and growth-driven mindset, skills to represent MSF Finland as a spokesperson and excellent leadership skills. General Director independently oversees the operations of the Finnish office in close collaboration with MSF Sweden.

 

As General Director, you will:

  • Lead MSF Finland – Implement the strategic vision, ensuring alignment with MSF’s principles and international goals.
  • Inspire and lead a capable team with purpose – Lead the management team and foster an inclusive, high-performing, and mission-driven culture.
  • Represent MSF in Finland – Act as spokesperson for MSF Finland in media, public forums, and key stakeholder engagements.
  • Drive fundraising and communications – Strengthen donor relationships and enhance public awareness of MSF’s humanitarian work.
  • Ensure operational excellence – Oversee finances, risk management, compliance, and governance with transparency and accountability.

 

Who We Are Looking For

We seek an experienced, strategic and resilient leader with:

  • A strong commitment to humanitarian values and MSF’s mission.
  • Humanitarian sector experience, understanding of international humanitarian operations.
  • Proven experience in senior management.
  • Relevant academic degree or equivalent significant experience within the area.
  • Strategic vision and financial acumen – Ability to develop and execute organizational growth strategies.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills – Ability to inspire, mentor, and build strong teams.
  • Outstanding communication and networking skills – Fluent in English; Finnish proficiency is highly valued. Fluency in spoken and written Swedish is considered an advantage.
  • A resilient, adaptable mindset – Comfortable leading in a changing and flexible operating environment.
  • Previous experience with MSF (field or HQ) or knowledge of the Finnish NGO sector is a strong plus.

The base salary for General Director is €5.831 per month. In addition, we offer a 2% increase for every 12 months of previous MSF experience and comprehensive benefits, including e.g. lunch benefit, occupational health services, additional leisure-time accident insurance and MSF’s global travel insurance, and extended paid annual leave.

Lääkärit Ilman Rajoja (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) established an office in Finland in 2018. In a short time, we have grown into a dynamic, vibrant, and constantly developing organization that has found its place in the Finnish NGO sector. The purpose of the Finnish office is to raise awareness about humanitarian crises and to raise funds to help people living in the midst of these crises.
