Head, Finance and Administration
CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent organisation that works to prevent and resolve conflicts through dialogue and mediation. CMI was founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari. CMI has since grown to be a leader in the field of international peacemaking with annual budget of 18 million euros and close to 100 staff working in different capacities. CMI has headquarters in Helsinki, and an office in Brussels with active engagement in over 20 other locations globally. CMI became a Foundation in 2021.
CMI is now seeking an experienced Head, Finance and Administration (F&A) to a key role to lead its Finance, Human Resources and Administration functions and to ensure sustainable financial structures that meet the Foundation’s mission and contribute to the execution of CMI’s Strategy 2030.
The Head is responsible for the overall transparent and effective financial and administrative functionality of CMI and its assets, and reports to the Deputy CEO.
Key responsibilities:
- Managing the Finance and Administration function (incl. HR, Office Management and Digital Transformation), maintaining and developing processes, internal controls, guidelines and practices; managing the relationship with the service providers of outsourced IT, accounting and payroll services.
- Leading the Finance, HR and Administration teams (currently 7 colleagues), to ensure the effective distribution of workloads and act as a coach for the team members.
- Overseeing financial operations including liquidity management and the investment management of the Foundation.
- Leading on compliance issues, including contracts, procurement, GDPR, sanctions, and international operations in cooperation with external legal partners.
- Spearheading digital transformation of the organisation’s operational dimension, including AI adoption and other digital initiatives.
- Contributing to decision-making regarding Foundation’s financial planning and reporting of the Foundation’s Board of Directors on a regular basis.
- Ownership of Financial, HR and Administrative Policies, Rules and Regulations with the role as main focal point for deliberation and decision-making based on the policies in place.
- Ensuring timely, accurate and complete reporting to relevant authorities.
A successful candidate is expected to have:
- Demonstrated management skills and experience in leading teams;
- Extensive work experience in finance, HR and/or administration;
- Demonstrated change management skills, and ability to make decisions, to work under pressure and in a rapidly changing environment;
- Strong communications skills; fluent written and spoken English. Command of other languages is an asset (esp. Finnish, Swedish, French, Arabic, Russian);
- Experience in developing ICT solutions is an advantage;
- Experience in an international, multicultural working environment is an asset;

This permanent position is located in CMI’s headquarters in Helsinki and requires a work permit to work in the EU. The main working language is English. The starting date is as soon as possible and will be set upon agreement.
