Head of Brussels Office

CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent Finnish organisation that works to prevent and resolve conflicts through dialogue and mediation. Founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, we have since grown to be a leader in the field of international peacemaking.

CMI is now seeking a HEAD, BRUSSELS OFFICE to support its EU-related engagement.

The Head of Brussels office will be responsible for:

  • Managing the CMI office, its administrative responsibilities in Brussels and relations with Belgian authorities
  • Maintaining and developing relationships and communication with stakeholders in Brussels, including organizing activities
  • Managing internal and external communications related to CMI’s engagements with the EU institutions and member states representations in Brussels
  • Monitoring EU policy developments related to mediation and to contexts where CMI is engaged in
  • Coordinating fundraising efforts with the EU

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Have a Master’s Degree from a relevant field of study
  • Have at least seven years of relevant work experience in conflict resolution and mediation, international peace and security, and particularly working with the EU institutions and EU member states representations in Brussels
  • Have experience in managing administrative/HR matters
  • Have an excellent understanding and practical knowledge of the EU, its dynamics and politics, as well as an existing network in Brussels, experience of work with EU funding and in multilateral organizations is desirable
  • Have a good understanding of the mediation agenda as well as the Women, Peace and Security agenda and related issues, especially in the EU policy context;
  • Have excellent coordination skills and experience in working with teams remotely and in a multinational environment
  • Be positive, service-minded and have excellent organizational skills
  • Have a flexible attitude and ability to work under pressure in challenging circumstances and under tight timelines
  • Have excellent networking skills, and cultural sensitivity
  • Have excellent English language skills and as well as one of the official languages of Belgium. Command of Russian, Arabic and French are seen as an asset.
  • Have the right to reside and work in Belgium. Be able to travel.
  • Commit to CMI values and principles of neutrality.

The position will be open-ended, and requires to be based in Brussels. Preferred starting date is in September 2021.
