Helsingin Sanomat datadesk is looking for a developer to join the team. The goal of datadesk is to be a top of the class creator of digital journalism globally, and good quality software development is a mandatory prerequisite for that.
As a developer in the datadesk you are a part of the Helsingin Sanomat editorial room. Datadesk develops data journalism tools, makes visual special articles and analyses data for the newsroom needs. In a cross disciplinary working environment you'll act as the technical specialist, enabling implementation of ideas and on the other hand offering opportunities that weren't previously available.
The unique addition to traditinoal programming work in the editorial room is the pulse of the news cycle - at times, datadesk develops longer term visions and at times reacts to breaking news.
Having a varied technical background and knowledge of different software development methods and tools helps thrive in this environment. A drive to learn new things is essential in the world of news.
What you will do
- Write high quality, maintainable code and release quality features using TypeScript, React, Vue, Nodejs, AWS, DynamoDB, Docker and GitHub.
- Perform peer reviews and participate in technical discussions both at the team level and product level
- Contribute to technical planning and backlog management
- Help investigate and resolve production issues

Datadesk is located in the Helsingin Sanomat newsroom in Helsinki. Remote work opportunity 60-80% of the time.
