Lab Manager, Superconducting Quantum Hardware

We are now looking for a Laboratory Manager to join us in the Micronova premises in Espoo!
The team is part of VTT’s Microelectronics and quantum technology research area. The team is an international team comprised of world-class experts on superconducting circuits, mostly on permanent contracts and with more than half of the team having a doctoral degree. In terms of qubits, the team focuses on the development of fabrication technologies and interconnect solutions that allow scaling the qubit count in superconducting quantum processors without sacrificing quantum coherence. In terms of other superconducting circuits, the team develops single-flux quantum circuits, Josephson arbitrary waveform generators, as well as superconducting photodetectors. The team has a roughly even split between experts focusing on process development and physical characterization in the Micronova cleanroom and experts focusing on circuit design, modeling and cryogenic characterization. Research is done in close collaboration with other VTT teams, research partners and commercial customers both in Finland and abroad. In a Laboratory Manager role, you will be responsible for supporting the quantum computer laboratory and research environment of the QHW team.
Your tasks includes e.g.:
• Maintenance and development of the cryogenic infrastructure of our dilution refrigerators which involve vacuum
• Managing, operating and maintaining the quantum computer laboratory infrastructure
• Keeping inventory of laboratory equipment and consumables
• Ordering laboratory consumables and services
• Keeping laboratory spaces in order
• Upkeep of records and logs
• Assisting with setting up measurements
• Possibly programming of measurement electronics
• First point of contact with laboratory related internal requests.
• Assisting with new equipment purchases, assembly or installations.
The required qualifications of applicants:
• Technical degree in an applicable field such as engineering, computer science and/or physics. PhD is not required, but an asset.
• Good teamwork skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience with electronics, vacuum systems, and/or cryogenic equipment.
• Fluency in both spoken and written English. Spoken Finnish is considered an asset.
• Experience in programming is beneficial but not compulsory.
• Willingness to learn and develop your skills in this domain.
