We are now looking for a legal counsel for a full-time, permanent position in Helsinki.

The legal counsel position is part of the legal affairs function, and the legal counsel reports to the chief legal counsel. The legal counsel works mainly on project documentation and structuring investments.

What you will be doing

Finnfund is mandated to provide long-term financing for economically feasible private sector projects in emerging markets. At the end of 2023, Finnfund’s portfolio contained 198 investment decisions in 53 countries. Our financing is channeled either as debt, equity, or mezzanine instruments. We also invest through private equity funds. As a member of a project team you will be in charge of identifying and managing legal risks in projects. You will also be in charge of documentation and legal management of projects. You will take care of the management of external legal assignments and provide assistance in matters concerning responsible taxation. You will also provide assistance in other legal matters (including the levels of internal decision-making).

In addition, as a legal counsel, you will:

  • maintain and develop the legal function by, amongst other things, keeping up to date with regulations related to project work and communicating new or revised regulations to project teams and, when needed, by participating in implementing such regulations into Finnfund’s processes
  • participate in drafting and updating templates and guidelines
  • participate in other development work of Finnfund’s operations.

The job description may also include projects and other tasks in the legal affairs function, which are not specifically defined here.

An ideal candidate should have a (preferably Finnish or English) Master of Laws degree or an equivalent legal degree and a minimum of 5 years of applicable professional experience from either a law firm or a financial institution. We require experience in debt financing or equity investments and consider experience in cross-border transactions and/or project finance as an asset.
