Legal Counsel

We are now looking for a Legal Counsel for a full-time, permanent position in Helsinki.
The Legal Counsel position is part of the Legal Affairs Function, and the Legal Counsel reports to the Chief Legal Counsel. The Legal Counsel primarily focuses on project documentation and structuring investments.
What you will be doing
Finnfund is mandated to provide long-term financing for economically feasible private sector projects in emerging markets. At the end of 2024, Finnfund’s portfolio contained 202 investment decisions in 55 countries. Our financing is channeled either as debt, equity, or mezzanine instruments. We also invest through private equity funds.
As a member of a project team, you will be in charge of identifying and managing legal risks in projects. You will also be responsible for documentation and the legal management of projects, including the management of external legal assignments and providing assistance in matters concerning responsible taxation. You will also provide assistance in other legal matters, such as internal decision-making processes.
In addition, as a Legal Counsel you will also:
- maintain and develop the Legal Affairs Function by, for example, keeping up to date with regulations related to project work and communicating new or revised regulations to project teams, as well as participating in implementing such regulations into Finnfund’s processes;
- participate in drafting and updating legal templates and guidelines; and
- support in other legal development work regarding Finnfund’s operations.
Who we are looking for
An ideal candidate for this position should have a Finnish or English Master of Laws degree or another relevant legal qualification (e.g. solicitor accreditation) and a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience from either a law firm or a financial institution. We require experience in debt financing and/or equity investments and consider experience in cross-border transactions, private M&A transactions and/or fund investments an asset.
Excellent writing and communication skills in English are prerequisites, while fluency in other languages and international experience are considered assets. A successful candidate for this position is a proactive person who has good teamwork skills, the capability to take responsibility and full ownership of their work and is able to work independently under time pressure. Excellent ICT skills are also required.
