Master Data Specialist (m/f/d)

As a Master Data Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and governance of financial and commercial master data across global systems. You will support core business operations by maintaining high data quality, enforcing global standards, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and audit requirements. Partnering closely with Finance, Procurement, IT, and Business Units, you will contribute to process optimization, system integration, and global data harmonization initiatives. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong SAP experience, a governance mindset, and a passion for operational excellence in a global, matrixed environment.
What you will be doing:
Master Data Operations
- Create, maintain, and retire customer, vendor, and financial master data in SAP and related systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Process master data requests in line with defined SLAs and governance standards.
- Review and validate supporting documentation, approvals, and business justifications prior to data creation or changes.
Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Ensure all master data activities comply with internal controls, segregation of duties (SoD), and audit requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, evidence, and explanations.
- Participate in control testing, issue resolution, and remediation activities.
Data Quality & Governance
- Monitor and improve data quality by identifying root causes, resolving issues, and implementing corrective actions.
- Execute data cleansing, duplicate prevention, and standardization initiatives.
- Enforce global data standards, naming conventions, and governance policies.
Systems & Integration Support
- Support system integrations impacting master data (e.g., SAP, Ariba, and other platforms).
- Investigate and resolve IDOC errors, synchronization issues, and system discrepancies.
- Participate in testing, deployment, and adoption of system enhancements and new tools.
Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Identify opportunities to optimize, standardize, and automate master data processes.
- Contribute to global transformation and harmonization initiatives.
- Act as a trusted partner to Finance, Procurement, Tax, Compliance, and Business stakeholders, providing guidance on master data processes and best practices.
What you need to succeed:
- 2+ years of experience in finance, financial master data management, or a related role.
- Hands-on experience with financial master data, including cost centers, internal orders, and GL accounts.
- Experience managing customer and vendor master data.
- Strong SAP experience; familiarity with additional ERP or financial systems is a plus.
- Experience with SAP MDG and S/4HANA is preferred.
- Experience with ServiceNow is an advantage.
- Solid understanding of data governance, data quality management, and financial system processes.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across global and cross-functional teams.
- Experience working with global data standards, templates, and harmonization initiatives.
- Ability to manage priorities, meet SLAs, and perform accurately in a high-volume environment.
- A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
