We are now looking for a Master’s thesis worker to work as part of our Safety in complex sociotechnical systems-team.
Our team integrates expertise in risk assessment, system safety and organizational factors & safety culture to enhance safety and sustainability in novel technological and challenging industrial contexts, especially the nuclear industry, chemical industry, transport, maritime, healthcare, machine manufacturing, etc. We support regulators and companies by conducting safety and reliability analyses, risk assessments and safety culture assessments and development. Through identification of risks and opportunities associated with the interaction of the system’s components – human, organization and technology, and the wider institutional context - we generate development ideas for the benefit of our customers. Our science-based approach helps customers to ensure the safety and reliability of novel products and sustainable operations in complex sociotechnical systems.
As a Master's thesis worker, you will be working in DroLo project – “Autonomous intelligent multi-purpose drone enabled business in evolving U-Space environment”. The DroLo project focuses on developing business opportunities for partially or fully automated, intelligent and 5G-connected multifunctional drone concepts that can be utilized in the service businesses of control, logistics and drone operator industries, as well as in the manufacturing and sales businesses of software technology, platform technology and network technology products. As a young talent, your participation in DroLo project is a unique opportunity due to the novelty of drone applications and future potential for research and innovation.
The duration of the Master's thesis work period is 6 months and the work is paid. The position is filled as soon as we find the right candidate.
The work is focused on safety issues in drone operation and it is limited to ‘specific category’ drone applications, which are riskier operations with civil drones in an urban environment. The work includes literature studies, expert interviews in companies, study on ‘Specific Operations Risk Assessment’ (SORA) risk assessment methodology and its implementation in a company case.
More specifically, the Master’s thesis work includes a study and implementations of SORA methodology, gaining practical experience by participation in a company use-case in the project implementing SORA method to a real case system, literature review on current European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations and other international rules that apply to specific category ‘Unmanned Aircraft Systems’ (UAS) drone operations.
