Purpose of the Study

To increase the knowledge and expertise within the evolving automotive industry, Infotiv Technology Development AB developed the open and educational Autonomous Platform.  It is currently in its fourth iteration (AP4) and the goal of the platform is to have an autonomous gokart that can be used to progress research and development in the automotive industry. As the platform evolves, ensuring its reliability and testing all features to work properly becomes increasingly critical.

This thesis aims to explore and implement verification, validation, and testing strategies for the autonomous platform using simulation environments, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) methodologies. The goal is to create a robust testing framework that enables rapid prototyping, fault detection, and performance evaluation of autonomous functionalities (possibly ML based) in a controlled and repeatable manner. Potential Research Questions

  • How can HIL and SIL be integrated into the development pipeline of autonomous platforms?

  • What simulation strategies are most effective for testing autonomous driving behaviors?

  • How can CI/CD pipelines be used to automate testing and validation?

  • What are the challenges in verifying safety-critical systems in simulated environments?
