We are now looking for two Master’s Thesis Worker to participate in the cellular agriculture research!
 

As a Master’s thesis worker, you have an opportunity to investigate together with the research project team how different agri-food industry side-streams can be used as feedstocks for the microbes and plant cells used for food production.

Our food research is focusing on research, development and innovation actions that enable transition towards more sustainable food ecosystem. As part of the food research, we harness biotechnology, also called cellular agriculture, for renewal and improvement of food processes. Related to this, VTT has an ongoing project Food without Fields funded by Catch the Carbon research and innovation programme of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the project studies disruptive food production technologies as part of achieving Finland’s carbon neutrality objectives.

The solutions studied include: 1) Cellular agriculture: harnessing microbes and plant cells to produce feed and food ingredients in vertically scaling bioreactors; 2) novel plant factory and greenhouse solutions to protein plants year-around.
 

As a Master’s Thesis Worker:

  • You will plan and execute experimental work either with plant cell cultures or with microbial cells. You will collect data and compile reports and a MSc thesis that includes state-of-the-art literature part.
     

Who we are looking for:

  • You have an education in life sciences
  • You have also understanding of microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and/or bioprocess engineering
  • Motivation to learn new things
  • In addition, it would be beneficial to have practical experience in working in aseptic conditions and working with shake flask or bioreactor cultivations
