Open application - Internships

We are Helsinki Shipyard – celebrating 160 years of shipbuilding excellence. Since 1865, we have been designing, building, and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. We proudly continue the legacy of Helsinki’s own Shipyard, right in the heart of Helsinki.

With us, you get to design and build the ships under one roof from start to finish, in close collaboration with our customers. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. We've built over 50% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas!

We are now beginning construction on a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030.

What will you do as an intern?

As an intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers and designers and support ongoing ship projects. Your tasks may include assisting with design work, drawings, calculations, documentation, supplier coordination, and other project-related activities depending on your background, interests, and the department you join. You will gain hands-on experience in a real shipbuilding environment and see how large, complex vessels are designed and built.

To succeed in this role:

  • You are a student in a relevant technical or engineering field (Bachelor’s or Master’s level).

  • You have a proactive mindset and an interest in shipbuilding or marine technology.

  • You are willing to learn and work in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • You have good English language proficiency (both written and spoken)

  • In the production department, proficiency in Finnish is also required.

What makes us a good choice?

🚢 Our designers and engineers participate in the entire process, from first drafts to supplier collaboration and the finished vessel. You will see the concrete results of your work at our piers.
🚢 In our close-knit organization, collaboration is key, and interns are treated as a valued part of the team.
🚢 We offer flexible working options with offices in Helsinki, Turku, and Pori, as well as hybrid work possibilities depending on tasks and project phase.

Ready to make an impact?
If you are motivated, curious, and eager to learn, we would love to hear from you. As an intern, your contribution will support the performance, efficiency, and comfort of vessels operating in demanding marine environments.
