People & Culture Business Partner

Join us in building a better and more sustainable world

We are now looking for an experienced, business-oriented and forward-looking People & Culture Business Partner to join our People & Culture team.

In this senior professional role, you will be Finnfund’s primary People & Culture partner for assigned managers and teams. You will translate business priorities and P&C frameworks into consistent, legally compliant and practical people practices, strengthening leadership, organisational capability, performance, talent, employee experience and change execution across Finland and, together with local stakeholders and advisers, our Nairobi office.

A chance to build, not only to maintain

Our People & Culture function is in an active phase of development. We are evolving our leadership practices, culture, people processes and ways of working. This role offers a genuine opportunity to influence how People & Culture is shaped at Finnfund. We hope you bring enthusiasm, insight and a hands-on approach to development, and enjoy turning ideas into practical solutions for managers and employees.

Your role

You will combine strategic partnership with hands-on operational support. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Advising, coaching and constructively challenging managers on leadership, team effectiveness, role clarity, feedback, inclusion, wellbeing and consistent application of policies.
  • Supporting and facilitating workforce and capability planning, organisation design, role-definition and resourcing discussions, including visibility of critical roles, capability gaps and succession risks.
  • Ensure high-quality recruitment and onboarding, and develop goal-setting, performance, talent and succession processes.
  • Advising managers in demanding employee-relations matters, including employment terms, conduct, performance, workplace conflicts, grievances, absence and work-ability situations, with sound documentation and timely escalation of material risks.
  • Coordinating employee survey follow-up, action planning and impact tracking, and integrating equality, non-discrimination, inclusion and fairness into people processes.
  • Coordinating proactive work-ability management and contributing to occupational safety cooperation, psychosocial workload prevention, workplace investigations and statutory action planning.
  • Maintaining an annual P&C compliance calendar and responsibility matrix, monitoring relevant regulatory and collective-agreement developments, and translating them into policies, guidance, controls and planned actions.
  • Partnering with Nairobi management and local support on leadership, organisation, recruitment, performance, learning, employee relations and change, using agreed local advisers and approval routes where needed.
  • Using people information responsibly to produce evidence-based recommendations and leading selected P&C development projects, including process improvement and responsible use of AI.
  • Maintaining a broad understanding of operational P&C processes and serving as the primary backup for the P&C Specialist, providing hands-on support when required to ensure uninterrupted and compliant services.

Shape the future of HR with AI

You bring practical AI expertise and understand how AI can enhance leadership, talent management, employee experience and HR processes. You are excited about using AI to create business value while ensuring responsible use, data protection and human oversight.

How the role works within People & Culture

Working within Finnfund’s policies, delegated authorities and legal framework, you will independently support and guide managers on people, talent and organisational matters. You will collaborate closely with the Chief People Officer, P&C Specialist, managers and other key stakeholders across Finland and Nairobi to deliver impactful and compliant people solutions.

What we are looking for

  • A relevant university degree or equivalent professional competence.
  • Solid experience as an HR or P&C Business Partner, senior generalist or employee-relations professional, preferably in an expert organisation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Finnish employment law, collective agreements and fair, compliant people processes.
  • Experience in recruitment, performance and talent processes, organisational development, change, facilitation and people analytics.
  • Trusted-adviser credibility, sound judgement and strong stakeholder, negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken Finnish and English. International experience and exposure to Kenyan employment matters are advantages.
  • Practical AI competence and an understanding of responsible use, confidentiality, data protection and human oversight.

What will help you succeed

You combine professional judgement with a warm, pragmatic and service-minded approach. You build trust, ask thoughtful questions and take ownership. You are comfortable moving between strategic discussions, company-wide processes and sensitive day-to-day situations, while creating clarity and sustainable ways of working.

Why Finnfund?

  • Meaningful work in a purpose-driven organisation combining business, sustainability and global impact.
  • A collaborative, values-based and inclusive working culture.
  • A visible role with the opportunity to influence leadership, culture, organisational capability and employee experience.
  • The chance to help shape a developing People & Culture function, including responsible use of AI and modern, evidence-based people practices.
  • An international working environment with colleagues and partners from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Opportunities for professional learning and growth, flexible ways of working (many of us work from home 1–3 days a week) and a strong focus on wellbeing.
