We are now looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Emission control and sustainable fuels team for a fixed-term employment (approx. 24 months) in early 2024!

In 2023 VTT started a Postdoc programme to develop new ways to support scientific excellence and to strengthen career paths from universities to VTT. We want to provide development opportunities for recent university PhDs in applied research and industry collaboration. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at VTT, you are able to make an impact on our customers and society. Our researchers work closely together with industry, often in interdisciplinary research groups. VTT has excellent research infrastructure and internal services to support your research work.

In this Postdoctoral Researcher position, you will have an essential role in non-exhaust emission research at VTT. You will develop non-exhaust emission measurement capabilities and conduct experimental research in this field. You will support ongoing research projects with our skills. Our team Emission control and sustainable fuels, works on harmful emissions of vehicles and their reduction methods, for instance aftertreatment systems and new fuels. Now, the team is expanding to non-exhaust emission research with aim to analyse all the emissions of vehicles and support development towards completely zero emission vehicles.

Your responsibilities as Postdoctoral Researcher:

  • Developing non-exhaust emission research capabilities at VTT. 
  • Conducting experimental brake and tire wear emission research (additionally exhaust emission research). 
  • Analysing measurement data and developing data analysis methods. 
  • Collaborating in research team and project group with co-writing and project work. 
  • Participating actively in dissemination with journal publications and conference presentations. 
  • Optionally, participating in discussions with potential customers and collaborating research organizations as well as planning and applying of new projects. 
  • Supervising or tutoring junior team members​. 

Who we are looking for:

  • You have recently (max 5 years ago) gained your doctoral degree in the vehicle emission research or in the aerosol science or in a closely related field. 
  • You are familiar with exhaust and non-exhaust emissions of vehicles and their research methods. 
  • You have experience in: 
    • Dynamometer testing of vehicles, engines, brakes or tires or
    • Measurement of aerosol particle emissions. 
  • You can conduct high quality experimental emission research, analyze measurement data, and report your results scientifically, CFD skills are an asset but not requirement for this position. 
  • You have excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
