Finnish National Opera Orchestra announces audition for
PRINCIPAL HORN
Obligation to play the descant horn, the Wagner tuba, the natural horn and the Vienna horn.
Permanent position starting on 8.1.2027, or by agreement.
AUDITION will take place at the Finnish National Opera on Tuesday 3.11.2026.
Required pieces:
1) W.A. Mozart: Horn Concerto no. 4 in Eb major KV 495 with cadenza
2) Richard Strauss: Horn Concerto no. 1, op.11
3) Orchestral excerpts
Music for the orchestral excerpts will be available starting from 25.9.2026 for those who have sent an aplication.
We are looking for
- Musician working at high artistic level
- Musician who has ability to work in artistic supervisor role
- Person with good communication and co-operation skills
An accompanist will be provided but candidates may bring their own pianist if they so desire.
The candidates selected for the audition will be informed after the application closing date.
Position is open to applicants of any nationality.

The Finnish National Opera and Ballet is one of the leading opera companies in northern Europe. The Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera is Finland’s largest symphony orchestra, with 110 members. The Principal Conductor is Dima Slobodeniouk. Apart from opera and ballet performances, the Orchestra gives symphony and chamber music concerts. The Orchestra currently has members from 15 nationalities, and the working languages are Finnish and English.
