The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Turku invites applications for contract-based, fixed term University Teacher in French from August 1, 2025 to July 31, 2026. This is due to substitution.
The Department of French is part of the School of Languages and Translation Studies. The School is an active, diverse and international centre for language study education and research. The Department of French conducts research on different aspects related to communication and language learning and trains experts in language and communication.

Job description
The position of university teacher includes teaching and supervisory duties in Bachelor's and Master's studies in French. The university teacher is responsible for language proficiency instruction as well as teaching courses in academic communication skills, language teaching, linguistics, cultural studies, and/or translation studies. The role may also include teaching in Master's degree programmes. Additionally, the university teacher is responsible for academic advising and student admissions tasks.
The successful candidate is expected to conduct active scientific research aligned with the research profiles of the discipline and the School, as well as the university's interdisciplinary areas of strength. The university teacher also participates in administrative duties and contributes to the activities of societal interaction. The position requires excellent communication skills in French, along with proficiency in Finnish and/or English.

Successful performance in the post of university teacher requires
- excellent communication skills in French, along with proficiency in Finnish and/or English
- experience in university level teaching of French
- ability to teach in Bachelor's and Master's studies in French

Salary and trial period
The salary for the position is determined on the basis of job demand assessment levels 4–6 of the university salary system for teaching and research personnel, where the task-specific salary component is between € 2775–3747 per month. A component that is based on personal performance is also paid in addition to the task-specific salary, and this component is min. 6 % of the task-specific salary. The salary will in the beginning of the employment be approximately 3500 €/month.
The position has a trial period of six (6) months.
