We are now looking for a Research Engineer to join our Materials in Extreme Environments team. You can be recently graduated or already have some work experience in this field.

As a Research Engineer your key goals are ensuring the fluent execution of materials testing and exposure, collecting and analysing the research data, as well as developing our research facilities to match the future needs. In this position, you will have an essential role in designing, conducting, and developing the experiments in collaboration with the supporting team of experts, understanding the hurdles and possibilities of the instrumentation, and undertaking various tasks simultaneously.

Our team, Materials in Extreme Environments, focuses on experimental materials performance research around such topics as corrosion under a wide range of conditions, electrochemistry, creep and creep-fatigue, and materials characterization. The application fields of the results are broad and directly respond to the industrial needs. As the processes are rapidly becoming carbon free, understanding the materials performance is more important than ever.

As Research Engineer, you will:

• Design and develop new experimental capabilities in our laboratory and improve the existing ones where needed.
• Make sure that experimental materials’ research data is collected in such a way that it serves its purpose and the surrounding team of experts in the best way.
• Use the basic metal shop equipment for example in sample preparation.
• Collaborate and communicate with external stakeholders such as sub-contractors.

Who we are looking for:

• You have a suitable degree in engineering (e.g., Machine Eng., Electrical Eng., Materials Eng.,)
• You have practical experience in setting up experimental measurements and data collection. Preferably you also have some experience in analysing data, or you would be willing to learn.
• Ideally you understand the basic principles of electrochemistry.
• You are a team player who is passionate about developing state-of-the-art materials research equipment and capabilities.
