Research Scientist - Cybersecurity assessment

We are now looking for a motivated Researcher to join our Applied cybersecurity team.

As a Research Scientist in cybersecurity, you have a role in state of the art security assessment, especially for testing the security of industrial, networking, medical and other types of devices. You can already be an experienced professional or be at the beginning of your career, your responsibilities can be modified accordingly. 

Our team, applied cybersecurity, works on topics related to security design, training, assessment and awareness.

As a cybersecurity Research Scientist, you will:

  • Focus on VTT’s cybersecurity device testing activity.
  • Participate to research projects, commercial and public, on both national and international level.
  • Develop and contribute to the next generation of VTT’s cybersecurity testing capability.

Who we are looking for:

  • A completed or nearly done master's degree in cybersecurity, computer science or engineering (e.g., computer/electrical/industrial Eng.).
  • Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals and some practical experience in cyber security from work or university, prior knowledge or experience in cybersecurity (from work, studies or hobbies).
  • Basic knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, Java…).
  • Very good English skills (spoken and written).

Meritorious in this role:

  • Understanding of information systems and network protocols.
  • Understanding of Industrial Control Systems and their cybersecurity challenges.
  • Understanding of web application security.
  • Understanding of risk analysis, threat modelling and knowledge on security tools and techniques: Nmap, Wireshark, Burp Suite, Kali Linux.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Linux operating systems
  • Certifications, such as OSCP, CEH, GIAC, CISSP.
  • Experience in, hackthebox and similar platforms.
  • Knowledge on related standards and frameworks, e.g. IEC 62443, ISO 27001, OWASP.
  • Finnish language skills.
