We are now looking for a Research Scientist, Electrochemistry and Corrosion to join our Materials in Extreme Environments team.

As a Research Scientist your key goal is to master, develop, and apply electrochemical measurements to solve materials’ challenges under demanding conditions. In this position, you will manage and execute materials research projects of various sizes and levels of complexity, actively participate in the preparation of project proposals, and be in a key role in defining the future directions of our electrochemistry and corrosion competencies.

Our team, Materials in Extreme Environments, focuses on experimental materials performance research around topics such as corrosion under a wide range of conditions, electrochemistry, creep and creep-fatigue, and materials characterization. The application fields of the results are broad and directly respond to the industrial needs. As the processes are rapidly becoming carbon free, understanding the materials performance is more important than ever.

As Research Scientist, Electrochemistry and Corrosion, you will:

  • Participate in the design and development of new experimental capabilities in our laboratory, and improve the existing ones where needed.
  • Perform electrochemical measurements independently in the lab and take a leading role in analysing the experimental results and their implications.
  • Collaborate across the VTT, especially with the materials modelling group, in order to take the full advantage of the performed research.
  • Disseminate your results in journal publications and conferences.

Who we are looking for:

  • You hold a master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Materials Science, Materials Chemistry or Physical Chemistry). We appreciate the willingness to PhD studies.
  • You master the theory behind and experimental methodologies of electrochemistry and corrosion research. You have proven track record demonstrating this.
  • You may be recently graduated, or you may have a couple of years of experience in working with electrochemical measurements or computational modelling. You are willing to combine the experimental and numerical approaches.
  • You have recent scientific publications.
  • You are a team player who is passionate about developing state-of-the-art materials research capabilities and applying them to solve academic and industrial challenges.

As a person, we hope that:

  • You can take care of multiple tasks simultaneously and work under strict deadlines.
  • You are self-driven and perform tasks independently.
  • You can communicate fluently in English.
  • You are looking for a long-term position with the possibility of competence development.
