Research Scientist, Measurements for Smart Electrical Grids

We are looking for an ambitious and results-oriented researcher with education and/or background in electrical measurement techniques and power systems. VTT MIKES realizes the SI system of units in Finland, and Electrical Metrology team is responsible for the national reference measurement systems of electrical quantities.
As a Research Scientist at Electrical Metrology team, you will participate in developing and applying measurement technologies related to smart electrical grids and power systems. That includes participation in top-class research in international collaboration projects, development and maintenance of national reference measurement systems, and working in close collaboration with customers in solving their challenging measurement problems and calibrating measurement devices at highest level of accuracy. You identify and solve problems independently and creatively, while working closely and flexibly with a team of experts.
As a Research Scientist, you will:
- Perform applied metrology research to develop measurement technologies for electrical power systems
- Develop and maintain national reference measurement systems on electrical power metrology
- Solve customers’ challenging measurement problems and calibrate their measurement instruments at high accuracy level
- Work in close collaboration with electrical metrology experts at VTT MIKES and with our clients and research partners in Finland and abroad
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a person who has experience in electrical and/or measurement techniques, preferably related to power systems, or who is interested in becoming an expert in this field. We expect that the person has a Master’s level degree or higher in Electrical engineering, Physics, or another field connected closely to electrical measurements, and possibly has an interest in postgraduate studies. Work experience is seen as an advantage but not mandatory. English skills are required, and Finnish skills are considered beneficial.

- Experience in performing experiments

- Electronics design and assembly skills
- Experience in measurement automation and programming
