We are now looking for a visionary Research Team Leader for our Electromobility team!

In this role, you ensure research excellence of the team based on scientific and experimental research, strategy and roadmaps for the future. Our goal is the make meaningful impacts on our Finnish and international customers’ innovation competitiveness and the society in general. The team’s vision is to provide solutions to speed up electrification of transport. Electric powertrain technologies, as well as battery-electric and various electric hybrid energy solutions in road vehicles, next generation of short-haul aviation, and mobile machinery and maritime are vitally important to meet the fossil-free and zero-emission goals. There are multiple research questions to address, such as,

  • What is the future potential of electrification in transport? And how to apply electrification optimally on different machines and vehicles
  • How to meet consumer expectations on charging times and driving range?
  • How to enhance electrical machine performance through additive manufacturing and optimisation?
  • How to select best energy storage technologies and what is the optimal use of batteries in different applications?
  • How to improve electric powertrain maintenance and operations with data-driven models?

Your responsibilities as a Research Team Leader:

  • Visionary leadership of the team. You are responsible for the research agenda of your team. You will be the spokesperson for the research topic and take an active role in promoting its visibility.
  • Relevance and ambition of the team’s project portfolio and impactful collaboration with companies, policy makers and other stakeholders. With your high ambition level and goal-oriented mindset, you ensure the high quality as well as high impact of the research work for customers and the society.
  • Working as one of the key contributors of the area, and leading and participating in relevant research and customer projects also yourself.
  • As member of VTT Mobility and Transport Research Area leadership team, you find ways to combine competences and foster internal-/external collaboration to ensure wider impact.
  • This is a line manager role, so you are responsible for coaching the team and team members’ performance as an inspirational leader. Employee wellbeing, recruitment and team’s competence development are your key priority.

Your profile and experience:

You have excellent substance knowledge and understanding of the team’s research content. You have a strong track record in driving excellence in the research work. As a leader, you want to create positive drive and get people excited by coaching and setting ambitious targets together with the team. You are proficient in English and you have good communication skills with the ability to build collaboration and networks with different stakeholders. We appreciate also your prior experience in managing jointly funded research or contracted projects.

You have interest and prior knowledge in some of the electric vehicles related technologies, such as, batteries, charging systems and electric powertrain. Preferably, you have obtained your Master’s or PhD degree from a relevant field and have wide professional network both nationally and internationally. Preferably, you are experienced as a change leader and agile in your thinking for best possible outcomes in the short and longer time horizon.
