(Senior) Developer, Newsroom Transformation

We develop and support content creation tools for 750 journalists working for Sanoma Media Finland newspapers (e.g. Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat) and magazines (e.g. MeNaiset, Gloria, ET-lehti). We work with editorial rooms, digital service development teams and other business units.
Newsroom transformation team develops and integrates various tools and processes and ensure reliable production environment for round-the-clock news production.

In this role, you will
- Write high quality, maintainable code and release it as well working features
- Perform peer reviews and participate in technical discussions both at the team level and product level
- Participate in internal and/or external developer communities
- Contribute to technical planning, backlog management and seasonal planning
- Help investigate and resolve production issues
- Participate in security and business continuity
- Mentor and empower other people around you
About you
In our belief, we find the following characteristics important to succeed in the job.
- Experience: 3+ years of software development experience. This position is a good place to grow as a cloud native web developer, or leverage your longer experience by taking a leading position.
- Web development: Programming languages are merely tools, but your experience primarily lies in Node.js, TypeScript, and React.
- Backend development: You understand integrations and the principles of good API design. You have practiced serverless paradigm, and worked with step functions and asynchronous server implementations.
- Cloud development: You can navigate the cloud infrastructure. We use AWS with CDK, but experience with Azure or GCP is also welcomed.
- Technical leadership: As a development team member, you have enjoyed the opportunities to support others and make technical and architectural decisions.
- Willingness to learn: As new, interesting, and better technologies evolve, you have the willingness and demonstrated capability to learn new things quickly and share your learnings with others.
- Language: We require excellent Finnish language skills (C1 level) to effectively communicate with internal teams and to fully understand our products, which are in Finnish.
