Sanoma Media Finland is the leading Finnish cross-media company and a forerunner in the digital transformation of media. Our brands deliver relevant, inspiring and captivating content across media channels and reach almost every Finn, every week. Our Tech & Data organisation is operating at the very heart of the fast-paced media world. We have 150+ experts of IT and data based in different cities in Finland.

We develop and support content creation tools for 750 journalists working for Sanoma Media Finland newspapers (e.g. Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat) and magazines (e.g. MeNaiset, Gloria, ET-lehti). We work with editorial rooms, digital service development teams and other business units.

Personalization team develops and operates Sanoma news recommendation system, related machine learning models and ensures that its recommendations are applied across services and user interfaces.

• Write high quality, maintainable code and release it as well working features
• Perform peer reviews and participate in technical discussions both at the team level and product level
• Participate in internal and/or external developer communities
• Contribute to technical planning, backlog management and seasonal planning
• Help investigate and resolve production issues
• Participate in security and business continuity
• Mentor and empower other people around you

About you

In our belief, we find the following characteristics important to succeed in the job.

• Experience: 5+ years of software development experience. This position is a good place to grow as a cloud native web developer, or leverage your longer experience by taking a leading position.
• Software development. Programming languages are only tools, but you have most experience with JavaScript/TypeScript or Python. On databases, you understand the characteristics of relational, vector and key-value databases, and have used MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB or others.
• Cloud development. You can work yourself through in the cloud infrastructure. We are using AWS with CDK/CloudFormation, but your experience can be also from GCP or Azure.
• Data engineering. You understand and are interested of the usage of machine learning methods and algorithms in commercial products and have hands-on experience of AWS and data pipelines, analytics and MLOps.
• Technical leadership. As a senior member in the team of developers, you have been enjoying the opportunities to take the responsibility to support others and make technical and architectural decisions. You can transform business requirements into technical solutions and talk and write about complex ideas concisely.
• Willingness to learn: As new, interesting, and better technologies evolve, you have the willingness and demonstrated capability to learn new things quickly and share your learnings with others.
• Language: We require excellent Finnish language skills (C1 level) to effectively communicate with internal teams and to fully understand our products, which are in Finnish.
