Senior Lecturer in Forensic Laboratory Science
Metropolia University of Applied Sciences is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to join our multidisciplinary team as a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Laboratory Science. In this role, you will help shape the future of forensic science education and contribute to the advancement of the field through teaching, development work, and international collaboration. This is a permanent position.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Deliver and develop teaching in forensic laboratory science, including topics such as forensic chemistry and analytical techniques.
- Teaching will primarily focus on the Laboratory Science degree programme. Depending on your background, you may also contribute to teaching in engineering programmes such as Biotechnology and Food Engineering or Energy and Environmental Engineering.
- Supervise and support students in laboratory work, project-based courses, and thesis projects.
- Participate in applied research, development, and innovation (RDI) projects in cooperation with industry, public sector actors, and academic partners—both in Finland and internationally.
- Develop and maintain networks with forensic laboratories and international partner universities.
- Contribute to curriculum development and the continuous improvement of our degree programmes.
- Take part in administrative duties and actively engage in the academic life of Metropolia UAS.
What We Expect from You
- A Master’s or Doctoral degree in forensic science, analytical chemistry, or a closely related field; a Doctoral degree is considered an asset.
- Strong expertise in forensic laboratory methods and instrumentation, such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and molecular techniques.
- Knowledge and understanding of forensic biology is an asset.
- Formal education in forensic science and/or work experience in the forensic field is considered an asset.
- Experience in applied research and development activities.
- Knowledge of or interest in digital tools, such as AI and XR technologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in English. Finnish language skills are not required, but a willingness to learn Finnish is expected—we support our staff in improving both Finnish and English skills.
- A pedagogical qualification for teaching at universities of applied sciences is not required at the time of appointment, but must be completed within three years of starting in the position.

Salary and Terms of Employment
Start date: 1 August 2025 or as agreed.
Starting salary: Approximately 4,500–6,000 EUR/month, depending on your education and work experience.
Terms of employment follow the general collective agreement for Finnish universities of applied sciences.
