Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry is seeking to recruit a candidate for the position of Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry, starting on August 1, 2025, or as agreed, on a permanent basis.
Duties and Requirements
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated senior lecturer in organic chemistry. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and supervising organic chemistry student laboratory experiments at all levels, delivering lectures in the field of organic chemistry, planning and developing organic chemistry student laboratory experiments and teaching materials, and supervising B.Sc. and M.Sc. thesis and when appropriate also PhD theses. The position also includes continuous development of teaching practices and participation in departmental duties. Laboratory work in organic chemistry focuses on organic synthesis and structural analysis of organic compounds in solution, solid state and gas phase, so the selected candidate is expected to have sufficient expertise in these areas.
In addition to the requirements for organic chemistry teaching, the senior lecturer is expected to carry out internationally high-level research in a field that aligns with the department's research profile. The research may be conducted either independently as a PI or as a member of an existing research group.
The applicant must have experience and a strong track record in teaching experimental organic chemistry. Pedagogical education and laboratory and/or other teaching work experience in organic chemistry are considered beneficial. Demonstrated experience in teaching development and the use of modern technology in teaching will also be considered beneficial.
The duties and qualification requirements of University Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Experimental organic chemistry teaching is conducted in Finnish at B.Sc. level, but also in English at M.Sc. level. Good proficiency in English and the ability to teach in English will be considered an advantage. The laboratory experiment instructions are in English for all levels.

The salary for a senior lecturer is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6–7 of the university salary system for teaching staff. The annual salary range will be 51,000 - 65,000 EUR (gross income, including a holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
A six-month trial period will apply at the start of the position.

A short description (max. 2 page) how the applicant will participate to research that supports the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
A teaching portfolio prepared according to the guidelines, i.e., a written description of pedagogical training and teaching merits (Instructions on the JYU Work with us website). Additionally, a short description (max. 2 pages) of the applicant's teaching philosophy and plans related to teaching for the position.
A short description (max. 1 page) of any other merits the applicant wishes to demonstrate for their suitability for the position.

The Department of Chemistry is internationally renowned for its high-quality research and teaching.
