Senior Lecturer in Russian Language and Culture

 

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Language and Communication Studies is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Russian Language and Culture for a fixed-term position, between January 2nd, 2026, and December 31st, 2029. The reason for the fixed-term position is a substitution.

The position is allocated to the discipline of Russian Language and Culture in the Department of Language and Communication Studies. The department provides high quality, research-based academic education in language and communication studies. Research in the department and the discipline investigates the significance of participation in multilingual, multicultural and technologized world through five core areas: 1. Multiliteracies and knowledge construction, 2. Learning and interaction, 3. Discourses, identities and mobilities, 4. Media landscapes, uses and practices, and 5. The Senior Lecturer is expected to be able to teach basic, intermediate, and advanced level courses in the discipline. The Senior Lecturer is also expected to conduct high-level teaching and scientific research in one of the department’s five research areas or at their crossroads to support the teaching and research profile of the department. Expertise in teaching and research in the core areas of Discourses, identities and mobilities, and Media landscapes, uses and practices are emphasized in the position. The language of instruction is Russian. The duties of the Senior Lecturer also include supervision of theses, administrative tasks, as well as planning new research projects.

Who we are looking for

Senior Lecturers are required to have a relevant doctoral degree. The duties and qualification requirements of Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Excellent proficiency in Russian is required in this position. Working proficiency in Finnish and/or English will be considered an advantage. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

In addition, the following skills and achievements are regarded as merits: (i) experience in teaching, (ii) pedagogical training, (iii) development of teaching materials, (iv) other merits in teaching, and (v) other skills and achievements relevant to the task of the Senior Lecturer. The salary for this Senior Lecturer's position is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 4200-4900 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
