Senior Lecturer in Statistics
The department of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Statistics starting 1st April 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is in effect until further notice.
Who we are looking for
The tasks of a senior lecturer include teaching and supervision as well as conducting research in statistics. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in the undergraduate teaching of statistics along with their research work and whose research interests match to the research profile of our department.
The senior lecturer is expected to be versatilely familiar with statistics research and have merits in research-based teaching. A good command of English language and ability to teach in Finnish are regarded as an advantage for the applicant.
The duties and qualification requirements of Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

The salary for a Senior Lecturer is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6–7 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 4100-5500 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

- A short and informal motivation/cover letter (max 2 pages), including your research interests, career goals and previous experience and merits in relation to the qualifications for this position.
- A numbered list of all scientific publications and other publications showing the applicant's ability and merits for the position using the guidelines of the Research Council of Finland. Differing from the Research Council guidelines, other statistics manuscripts from, for example the Arxiv archive, can be used in the publication list if they are publicly available and a link is provided.
- A maximum of five publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications (as one PDF file) or a PDF file with public links to the 5 chosen publications.
- Research plan: a short written description (max 4 pages) of the applicant's research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant's current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
- A teaching portfolio prepared according to the guidelines, i.e., a written description of pedagogical training and teaching merits (Instructions on the JYU Work with us website).

Department of Mathematics and Statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä in central Finland is a world class research institution training mathematicians and statisticians for diverse jobs in industry, education, and academic research. The main research areas in the department are mathematical analysis and geometry, stochastics, inverse problems, and statistics with their applications. In mathematical analysis and geometry, the research is focused on geometric analysis, nonlinear partial differential equations, and geometry of metric groups. In stochastics the key research area is stochastic analysis. The research group in Inverse problems focuses its research on inverse problems in geometry and partial differential equations. These have applications e.g., in medical and industrial imaging. In statistics the areas of research are computational statistics, causal models, design, nonparametric and robust multivariate methods, biometry, and environmental statistics. The department is a member of the networks of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Inverse Problems and of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Randomness and Structures, and FAME – the Flagship of Advanced Mathematics for Sensing, Imaging and Modelling.
