Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management of Innovation

Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is seeking to recruit Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management of Innovation, starting 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is in effect until further notice.

The position offers a unique platform to conduct pioneering research in innovation management while contributing to the school's vibrant academic community and its strong connections to Finnish business and society.

In announcing this position, we look for research examining how innovation processes are and become parts of strategic management and global strategy. Your research must focus on managing, organizing, and developing innovation that enables business value creation, competitiveness, and societal progress. We especially look for candidates studying strategic management and evolution of innovation processes embedded in wider institutional environments – geopolitical dynamics and regulative dynamics – and global technological transformations.

The discipline of Strategy and Entrepreneurship works with a variety of research methods, including qualitative, quantitative, and historical approaches. The group provides a supportive environment for methodological development and offers opportunities for collaboration with researchers across different disciplines. The group regularly publishes at the highest international level, including the Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy, Administrative Science Quarterly, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Science, and other leading outlets in strategy, international business, and entrepreneurship.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong research profile within strategic management of innovation and its intersection with strategy and international business, and to actively contribute to the discipline's research activities. Over the coming years, you should aim to strengthen your publication record, establish collaborations with international academia and Finnish business community, and secure external funding to support and expand your research activities.

Building on your academic and didactic competencies, you are expected to contribute to the development and strengthening of our course portfolio in innovation management, strategy, and/or international business. You must be experienced in and/or enthusiastic about teaching and interacting with students at different levels. You are expected to be able to teach courses in innovation management, strategy, and related areas at bachelor's and master's levels. The University of Jyväskylä operates primarily in Finnish, though our  Master's Degree Programme in International Business and Entrepreneurship, IBE, and Bachelor's degree programme Business Innovation and Sustainability, BIS, use English as the teaching language.

We are looking for candidates who can document research at the highest international level in the intersection of strategic management and innovation management, with clear potential for further development and contribution to teaching excellence.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Ability to conduct independent research with clear potential to build or maintain an international profile
  • Experience with high-level international academic publishing
  • Experience or strong potential in teaching at bachelor's and master's levels
  • Ability and willingness to supervise theses and mentor students
  • Experience with or aptitude for collaboration and writing funding applications
  • Commitment to engaging with both academic and practitioner communities

The duties and qualification requirements of a Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The primary language of instruction is English, and you are expected to be fluent in Finnish and English, or to demonstrate commitment to developing proficiency in Finnish if not currently fluent. The position is located in Jyväskylä, where contact teaching takes place. A trial period of six months will be used at the beginning of the employment.

The salary for a Senior Lecturer is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6–7 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 4200-5500 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
