HEAD / SENIOR MANAGER for CMI’s Women in Peacemaking team

CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent Finnish organisation that works to prevent and resolve conflicts through dialogue and mediation. Founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, we have since grown to be a leader in the field of international peacemaking.

Strengthening women’s agency in conflict prevention and conflict resolution is a central strategic priority across CMI’s programming, and it has a dedicated team to lead this work. We work with national partners in conflict-affected countries to enhance women’s influence in peace and transition processes, while also supporting mediation actors to advance more gender-sensitive mediation practices.

CMI is seeking an experienced Head / Senior Manager to lead its Women in Peacemaking programme for a one-year fixed term contract. The role (Head or Senior Manager) will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and credentials.

The Head / Senior Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and implementation of CMI’s work on Women in Peacemaking, including budget responsibility and approval rights
  • Managing the programmatic team and ensuring responsible and efficient implementation of the overall work and related resources, including direct supervisor responsibilities
  • Representing CMI on the thematic and developing networks and partnerships
  • Contributing to the development of the overall CMI programme, monitoring and evaluation, and cross team working
  • New business development and strategic responsibility of fundraising for the work files on the thematic

A successful candidate is expected to:

  • Have at least ten (10) years of practical experience in the field of conflict resolution, mediation and dialogue, including practical project management.
  • Have an excellent understanding and practical knowledge of Women, Peace and Security agenda, its dynamics and politics, relevant peace processes and related diplomatic efforts
  • Have solid project management skills (e.g. strategic development, budgeting, RBM)
  • Have strong skills in building and managing relationships with local, regional and international organizations as well as fundraising
  • Have excellent people management and teamworking skills
  • Have demonstrated ability to work under pressure in challenging circumstances and to tight timelines
  • Have strong communication skills and willingness to present CMI’s work in public
  • Have strong analytical and writing skills as well as excellent IT skills.
  • Have fluent written and spoken skills in English. Other language skills are an advantage.
  • Have a university degree from a relevant field
  • Commit to CMI values and principles of neutrality

The position is located in Helsinki, Finland. Working permit for working in Finland is a prerequisite. Frequent travel is required. At this stage, the position is fixed term for one year. Starting date is October 1, 2021 or as agreed.
