We are looking for an ambitious and results-oriented researcher with a background in electrical measurement techniques and power systems. VTT MIKES realizes the SI system of units in Finland, and Electrical Metrology Team is responsible for the national reference measurement systems of electrical quantities. As a Senior Research Scientist at Electrical Metrology Team, you will have a key role in developing and applying measurement technologies related to power systems and high voltage up to 300 kV. That includes top-class research in international collaboration projects, solving challenging customer problems in commercial projects, and developing and maintaining national reference measurement systems. You identify and solve problems independently and creatively, while working closely and flexibly with a team of experts.

As a Senior Research Scientist, you will:

  • perform applied metrology research to develop measurement technologies for power system and high voltage

  • create new EU-funded research projects together with other team members

  • use your expertise to solve challenging customer problems

  • be responsible for specific national reference measurement systems

  • work in close collaboration with electrical metrology experts at VTT MIKES and with our clients and research partners in Finland and abroad.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a person with experience in electrical measurement techniques, preferably related to power systems. We expect that the person has a PhD degree in electrical engineering, physics, or another field connected closely to electrical measurements, or, alternatively, a master’s level degree and several years of relevant experience.

Experience in performing experiments, development of measurement systems and uncertainty analysis are highly valued. Hands-on experience in high voltage work is needed. Electronics design and assembly skills are also appreciated. Practical programming skills are certainly necessary to support efficient design work and analysis of results. An Electrical Safety Card would be an advantage but is not a requirement.

As a person, you strive for excellent results but also prioritize and make pragmatic choices. You are focused and systematic. You contribute to a positive team spirit and prioritize the needs of the team high. You are hardworking but you also communicate, collaborate, and delegate effectively. You find it inspiring to work with a team of experts. You are eager to work with new topics with open-minded and curious attitude. You can bring clarity over complexity and identify the essential bottle necks.

With VTT, you’ll enjoy:
