Supplier Development Engineer

Are you a hands-on engineering professional with great problem-solving skills and a passion for manufacturing excellence? Ready to take ownership of supplier quality and technical development for our growing operations in North America? If so, we want you to join us as our Supplier Development Engineer.

In this role, your main priority is driving supplier performance, resolving component issues, managing PPAPs, and improving supplier yield across our North American supply base. You will collaborate closely with local part manufacturers, conduct audits, and ensure every incoming component meets our high standards. You will also work in close cooperation with our local assembly partner in Zeeland, Michigan, routing defects and troubleshooting technical component challenges directly where assembly happens. Over time, as our operations evolve, there will also be opportunities to expand your scope into broader product and production quality if that aligns with your strengths and interests.

You will operate with high autonomy based out of our Zeeland facility in the greater Grand Rapids area, joining our local supply chain team as one of our first key roles on the ground as we build toward continuous growth, all while being backed daily by our R&D, Sourcing, and Quality teams in Tampere, Finland.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

You are a courageous, decisive, and detail-oriented problem-solver who thrives in dynamic environments. You bring a boots-on-the-ground mentality combined with systemic thinking, comfortable taking initiative and holding suppliers accountable using data.

We're looking for:

  • Solid experience in supplier quality engineering, supplier development, or component quality management.
  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Technical aptitude to inspect physical parts, read technical drawings, familiarity with root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys), and execute PPAPs for new revisions and product launches.
  • Experience with supplier audits, process control plans, PFMEAs, and driving SCARs.
  • Excellent communication skills to build collaborative supplier relationships and bridge operations between our US setup and Finland HQ.
  • Experience with serial manufacturing assembly line quality or QMS is a plus, but not required.
  • Physical base near our production facility in Zeeland, Michigan, with readiness to travel locally to suppliers across the US (and occasionally Canada/Mexico), plus visit HQ in Finland a couple of times a year.

Don’t worry if you don’t 100% tick all the boxes - we are eager to hear about you, as we also leave room for the motivation to grow and learn to fit the role.
