We’re looking for a
SUSTAINABILITY DIRECTOR
for a permanent position in our Marketing, Communications and Sustainability team in Espoo.
What will you get to do?
As Sustainability Director, you will lead and develop Metsä Tissue’s sustainability team, with a unique opportunity at the outset to shape its structure, define ways of working, and establish a strong foundation for future success. Your main responsibility is to turn sustainability into a business value driver through effective commercialization and concept development, while ensuring good sustainability governance. You will be responsible for:
- Monitoring sustainability KPIs and ensuring roadmaps are relevant, up to date, and aligned with target achievement
- Leading the development of Metsä Tissue’s sustainability initiatives, programs, and internal collaboration forums
- Owning and developing the Metsä Tissue Sustainability Steering Group
- Lead Metsä Tissue’s contributions to Metsä Group’s sustainability reporting
You will lead key sustainability projects at Metsä Tissue, including the development of the "Metsä Tissue Sustainability Services" model and tools such as LCA frameworks. In addition, you will lead the development of sustainability culture across the organization and support commercial teams with tools, training, and messaging to integrate sustainability into customer engagement. Finally, you will ensure continuous learning and capability building on sustainability across Metsä Tissue’s organization.

You are a strong project leader who is result oriented, precise, and accurate with facts as well as a good and clear communicator. You have strong social and team working skills and you find it easy to network with various stakeholders both internally and externally.
You are interested in understanding different sustainability concepts and their linkage to business and have a high development orientation. You are able to create business value through sustainability and develop organizational competence in this area. Most of all, you are driven and motivated to develop sustainable company operations with your positive and proactive approach. Your ideas and insight are welcomed and highly appreciated at Metsä Tissue.
We expect you to have:
Sustainability Expertise
- Comprehensive understanding of the areas of sustainability and proven experience in leading and governing corporate sustainability agenda and initiatives
- Understanding of sustainability reporting and 3rd party assessments with a value-driven approach
- Experience in managing sustainability roadmaps and key performance indicators (KPIs)
Communication and Leadership Skills
- Strong project management capabilities and change management skills, especially in cross-functional and networked environments
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to create motivating sustainability communication and training materials
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of comprehensive sustainability management and/or leadership experience
- Master's degree focused on sustainability, or other suitable degree
Language skills and Industry Knowledge
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Good knowledge of Finnish is also highly appreciated
- Sustainability leadership and commercialization experience from a large corporation / in an industrial context is an advantage
