Are you looking for a market analysis leadership role in an organisation that strongly supports professional growth? Would you like to use your expertise to drive a sustainable future while working in an inspiring community at the cutting edge of science and technology? VTT might be just the place for you.

VTT is one of the leading applied research organisations in Europe. What unites us are curiosity, a passion for learning, and a purpose: to solve the biggest challenges of our time and turn them into sustainable growth and well-being. Get to know us further by exploring VTT's tech & infra.

We are now looking for Team Leader, Market Analysis team, to join VTT Business Intelligence.

Your team shapes VTT’s most important decisions with sharp, data-driven insight. As a Team Leader you will lead a high-performing Market Analysis team within VTT’s Business Intelligence (BI). Responsible for the resourcing of ~20 staff, including ~10 in-house specialists and external consultants, across market and business analysis, management consulting and patent expertise. Besides daily leadership work, you are the direct contact for our top executives to reach out when they need analysis. You work with tight deadlines, can quickly scope requests, and connect senior stakeholders with the right specialist. As and when required, you take a practical, hands-on approach, both doing and leading major market analyses. You oversee the review, development and tendering of VTT’s best-in-class information and data resources that underpin our insights.

The Market Analysis team transforms external market, technology and patent data into timely, decision-ready intelligence that informs our research portfolio, customers, partnership choices and strategy. VTT BI partners with research and business units to turn complex signals into clear, evidence-based recommendations. We sit at the Strategy Unit, which helps VTT set direction, read the operating environment, align priorities to long-term goals and foster meaningful dialogue across the organisation and with external stakeholders.

What’s in it for you?

  • Real impact: Your work directly guides VTT’s research investments and choices in areas critical to industry and society. Our scope is in the long term deep tech development, so everyday is like a step to the future.

  • Capable, kind colleagues: A skilled BI team that values learning, sharing and delivering together, along with stakeholders who are both highly smart and fun to be around.

  • Room to grow: Leadership development, method/toolkit expansion and opportunities to broaden your domain expertise.

  • Flexible, modern ways of working: Clear goals, collaboration and a healthy, sustainable pace that allows for both ambition and a life outside of work.

If you’re passionate about turning external data into strategic advantage and about coaching people as much as you want to grow impact, we’d love to hear from you.

As Market Analysis Team Leader, you will:

  • Own intake and prioritisation. Shape scopes, sequence the work and allocate resources so every engagement starts well and aligns with strategic priorities.

  • Assure quality. Provide hands-on sparring and review to ensure outputs are rigorous, reproducible and actionable.

  • Lead the team. Manage capacity, build skills and, where useful, bring in external experts to flex for high-priority needs.

  • Improve how we work. Refine our methods, templates, and analytical processes (including greater use of AI, advanced analytics, and reusable models) to increase efficiency, clarity, and impact.

  • Translate signals into strategy. Turn market, technology and patent trends into options, scenarios and recommendations for senior stakeholders.

  • Contribute to VTT’s organization-wide, holistic view. Support the businesses and advise on leadership and management topics.

  • Oversee market and patent information sources. Participate in the procurement of data sources and, where needed, negotiate terms; test, select and continually evaluate data and tools to ensure high-quality market analyses.

  • Nurture culture. Build a supportive, collaborative environment with open feedback, continuous learning and a sustainable pace.

Who we are looking for:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, technology, industrial engineering).

  • 7–10 years’ total experience in analytical, strategic or innovation-oriented roles, including 3–5 years leading experts and coordinating multi-disciplinary analysis/research projects.

  • 3+ years turning market/technology/patent insights into decision-ready recommendations for senior stakeholders.

  • 2+ years hands-on experience from data/vendor procurement: sourcing datasets and tools, negotiating commercial and licensing terms, and managing suppliers.

  • Demonstrated quality assurance mindset: reproducible ways of working, peer review, and clear documentation.

  • Strong delivery skills under time pressure; able to scope, prioritise and sequence work and allocate resources effectively.

  • Excellent communication in Finnish and English, adapting style and depth to audiences from specialists to executives.

  • High proficiency in creating decision-grade deliverables (e.g., PowerPoint storylines, Excel/Sheets models, concise briefs or articles).

  • Solid time management and autonomy in a dynamic environment, combined with a collaborative and pragmatic leadership style.

It’s an advantage if you also have

  • A background in management consulting or in strategy/insight function or experience working with industrial partners

  • Familiarity with AI and advanced analytics in insight workflows (e.g., applying LLMs, basic scripting, or using BI tools such as Power BI).

  • Experience designing methods, templates and tooling (pipelines, reusable models, QA checklists).

  • Awareness of data governance and compliance (e.g., GDPR, data licensing).

  • Budgeting and vendor management experience across multiple concurrent projects.

As a person, we hope that you are:

  • Driven to improve operational excellence; strong at estimating resourcing needs, asking the right questions and setting clear expectations with stakeholders.

  • Able to see the strategic big picture and committed to continually enhancing our internal service offering.

  • Adaptable and flexible with working hours to manage peak and quiet periods while maintaining work–life balance.

  • An empowering leader who develops others and enables decisions, while setting modern ways of working and insisting on excellent value for business stakeholders.
