Assistant / Associate Professor (Tenure Track) in Information Systems Science

Turku School of Economics invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) in Information Systems Science. The position is situated in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship.

The position will be filled through a tenure track system first as fixed-term employment periods as Assistant / Associate Professor. An Assistant Professor first serves for a fixed term of 3-5 years and an Associate Professor for 2-4 years before being evaluated for a promotion to become a Full Professor. The title and the position in the tenure track will be determined based on the qualifications and accomplishments of the successful applicant.

Teaching and research in Information Systems Science at Turku School of Economics focuses on the management and utilization of information technology. The subject's recent research and project activities have strongly emphasized themes related to the governance and social responsibility of artificial intelligence (AI). Based on various teaching and research metrics, Information Systems Science is one of the largest subjects at Turku School of Economics.

Job description

Assistant Professor / Associate Professor

  • conducts and supervises scientific research,
  • gives science-based education,
  • follows developments in science, and
  • participates in societal interaction and international cooperation in their field.

The position’s area of specialization is not restricted, but preference is given to applicants who have strong research merits in the discipline’s key research areas. The person selected for the position is expected to participate in the subject’s research and project activities. In addition, the successful candidate will take part in the subject’s teaching and thesis supervision, as well as administrative duties associated with an Assistant/Associate Professor position.

Who we are looking for

Tenure track –positions are meant for researchers who are pass the postdoc phase.  When selecting a person for the Assistant Professor phase, especially academic potential and motivation for an academic career are taken into consideration. The tenure track Associate Professor phase is intended for a high-level researcher whose qualifications indicate substantial scientific potential. The tenure track system of the University of Turku is described in: Guidelines for the tenure track system at the UTU.

The title (Assistant Professor / Associate Professor) and more detailed content of the position will be defined later based on the merits and the scientific career of the selected candidate.  

The person appointed to the position is required to meet the eligibility requirements laid down in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure (Section 29).

We are particularly looking for applicants with:

  • A successful, recent track record of publishing in key Information Systems (IS) outlets
  • Experience and recent evidence of obtaining research funding and running research projects
  • Experience in teaching and supervision activities in information systems science

The position is funded for the first year by the subject’s research projects focusing on AI governance. Therefore, relevant previous expertise and recent track record in research and project activities related to this theme will be considered a merit.

Pedagogical training will be considered a merit.

Successful performance in the position requires excellent command of the English language. Proficiency in Finnish may be considered a merit. In case a non-Finnish speaking person is selected for the position, the person will be encouraged to learn Finnish. University of Turku will provide support and training for Finnish language learning.

Salary and trial period

The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities for teaching and research personnel.  The salary shall be determined when drawing up the employment contract.

The position has a trial period of six months.
