Embassy of Finland in Ottawa is looking for a trade advisor with a wide range of duties to fixed term employment contract from 1 of September 2026 or as agreed in Toronto-based office.
Current core responsibilities:
- Advancing Finland’s economic and commercial interests and trade promotion in Canada
- Implementing the annual Team Finland plan, participating in yearly Team Finland reporting
- Analyzing the local market and promoting Finnish offering, identifying business opportunities and advising and informing Finnish companies on the Canadian market
- Organising and participating in events and delegation visits
- Compiling reports, summaries and background material as needed and customer relationship management
- Other duties as assigned
The core responsibilities may be revised with time to adapt to the internal operational needs of the embassy, as well as to the abilities and interests of the person selected.
Language skills
Ability to communicate effectively is required. Excellent verbal and written English is a must, Finnish and French considered an asset.
Other skills and abilities:
Experience in comparable duties, a relevant university degree, strong teamwork and communication skills, flexibility and computer skills are essential. Previous work experience as a trade advisor or in a similar role and experience in trade promotion, customer relationship management, analyzing local market, compiling reports and organizing events and delegation visits is also an asset. Relevant areas of expertise and interest may include, but are not limited to, the maritime, defence industry, mining, technology, and forestry. We value initiative, attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills. Appropriate training will be provided.

A successful candidate will be subject to security clearance as required by Finnish law, with his or her consent. For Finnish nationals a security clearance will be applied from the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (SUPO).
