Postdoctoral or Doctoral researcher to Turku Medical Bioinformatics Centre in Finland
Turku Bioscience Centre has an open position for a postdoctoral or doctoral researcher. The position is until August 31, 2026, with a possibility for extension. The start date is November 1st 2024, but is negotiable.
Turku Medical Bioinformatics Centre https://elolab.utu.fi at Turku Bioscience Centre is looking for a postdoctoral or doctoral researcher to join our projects focusing on identifying molecular factors and their regulatory networks involved in the development of human diseases. Using large-scale omics datasets and advanced computational methods, our goal is to gain deeper understanding of how the human immune system functions and how this understanding could be utilized to develop new treatments for immune-mediated diseases and cancer. The research will utilize statistical and machine learning methods, as well as bioinformatics tools, and will be carried out in close collaboration with biomedical research teams.
Job description
The tasks include both the analysis of omics data (e.g. phosphoproteomics) and the testing and further development of data analysis methods. The focus can be tailored according to the expertise and interests of the applicant. Additionally, the position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary research teams and following the rapidly developing latest methods in the field.
Who we are looking for
The applicant is required to have a PhD or MSc degree in a suitable field (bioinformatics, biostatistics, data science, computer science or similar). We may also consider applicants who have not yet completed their MSc studies, but are graduating soon.
We are looking for a researcher with a proficient understanding of bioinformatics tools and good programming skills (e.g. R, Python). The position requires a proactive approach in problem solving, self-direction and good cooperation skills. Fluent oral and written English is essential.
The job title of MSc level applicant will be specified during the recruitment phase. If the applicant has the right to study for a doctoral degree at University of Turku, the job title is doctoral researcher. Otherwise, the job title is project researcher. In case the Master degree is not ready yet, the person can be hired for a short period with the title of a Research Assistant.

Salary and trial period
The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities, aligning with the research personnel category. The demand level of the postdoctoral researcher position is 5 and the doctoral researcher position 2 – 3. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance is paid. The average monthly salary, depending on previous experience and skills, is around 3450 – 3800 euros per month for postdoctoral researcher and around 2400 - 2900 euros per month for doctoral/project researcher at the beginning of the employment. The salary for a Research Assistant is 2200 – 2300 euros per month.
The position is subject to a six (6) month trial period.
