Postdoctoral Researcher / Project Researcher Fixed Term Positions (Mathematics)

The number theory research group at University of Turku is seeking to employ two talented postdoctoral researchers or project researchers (about to obtain their PhD degree soon) to work on analytic number theory (one for the period 1.9.2026 – 31.8.2028 and one for the period 1.9.2026 – 31.8.2027). Both fixed-term positions are expected to start on 1 September 2026 or by agreement. The researchers will work in projects funded by Academy of Finland as part of the number theory research group and Finnish Centre of Excellence in Randomness and Structures.

The primary task of the researchers is conducting high-quality scientific research. The members of the researcher group are able to work on research topics from their own research plans together with their international contacts.

Requirements

Applicants are required to have a PhD degree in mathematics or to complete a PhD degree soon (project researcher), preferably on analytic number theory, and to be able to conduct independent research. Only applicants whose research plan concerns analytic number theory are considered. The most important selection criteria are the scientific merits of the candidate and the quality of the research plan. Preference will be given to those candidates whose research interests lie in multiplicative or additive number theory, L-functions or in the interface between additive combinatorics and analytic number theory.

The qualification requirements of the positions are determined in the University of Turku rules of procedure. Accordingly, requirements for a postdoctoral researcher are a doctoral degree and the ability to do independent scientific work as well as having the necessary teaching skills. In case a person selected for a project researcher position does not have a doctoral degree in the beginning of employment, the title will be a project researcher. A project researcher is required to have a higher university degree. When assessing the merits of the applicants, special emphasis will place on competence and practical expertise in the field in question.
