Research Technician or Project Researcher to the Turku Center for Disease Modeling

Turku Center for Disease Modeling (www.tcdm.fi) is a research and research service organization at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Turku. TCDM provides state-of-art research facilities and expertise in studies in experimental animals to support both academic and industrial associated preclinical research.

TCDM is looking for a Research Technician or Project Researcher to a fixed-term position from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028. The starting time is negotiable.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Research Technician/Project Researcher include carrying out projects using mouse models at the TCDM and assisting with various cell and molecular biology analyses.

Requirements

Successful candidate is required to have strong expertise and prior experience with in vivo animal models. In addition, the following is required

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field for laboratory work (e.g.  Medical Laboratory Scientist, BSc of Health Care, Biomedical Laboratory Scientist, Master’s degree in Biosciences)
  • Organisational skills and adaptability to changing work situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Initiative, good social skills, and active working attitude
  • Fluent in Finnish and English

Desirable qualifications

Experience with basic molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis, cell culture) is considered as an advantage.

The title and more detailed job description will be determined based on the background of the selected candidate. The job title of a Project Researcher can be used if the person has completed a higher university degree (please see University of Turku Rules of Procedure).

Salary and trial period

The salary of the Research Technician is determined according to the universities’ salary system  of the other personnel (level 6) and for the Project Researcher based on the job demands chart of teaching and research personnel (levels 2-4). In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. In the beginning of the employment, the salary of the Research Technician is on average 2 500-2 700 euros/month, and the salary of the Project Researcher 2 500-3 300 euros/month depending on previous experience and skills.  

The position has a trial period of six months.
